The role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Test Engineer with strong expertise in On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) testing for braking and steering systems. The role involves performing verification and validation activities on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) rigs and real vehicle environments. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with diagnostic standards, system integrity, and functional safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute OBD testing for braking/steering systems on HIL and vehicle platforms.
  • Validate diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), fault detection, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Perform functional and regression testing for braking and steering control modules.
  • Analyze logs, CAN traffic, and diagnostic data to identify and resolve issues.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts for OBD validation.
  • Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of faults in rig and vehicle environments.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO UDS) and other relevant diagnostic standards.
  • Prepare detailed test reports and maintain traceability in requirement management tools.
  • Collaborate with OEM teams and internal stakeholders for integration and release activities.

Required Competencies:

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive testing, with a focus on OBD diagnostics.
  • Having Swedish Driving (B ) License
  • Strong knowledge of braking or steering systems and their electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Hands-on experience with HIL systems and vehicle-level validation.
  • Previous experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
  • Proficiency in CAN communication protocols and diagnostic services (UDS, OBD-II).
  • Familiarity with functional safety (ISO and ASPICE processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Technical Skills & Tools:

  • CAN Tools: CANoe, CANalyzer for network analysis and diagnostics.
  • HIL Platforms: Vector VT System or similar.
  • Test Automation: Python, CAPL scripting.
  • Requirement Management: SystemWeaver or equivalent.
  • Diagnostic Tools: OEM-specific tools, OBD scanners, and calibration tools (ETAS INCA).
  • Issue Tracking: JIRA, Confluence.

Meritorious

  • ISTQB certification or equivalent testing methodology knowledge.
  • Experience with continuous integration and automated test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with OEM release processes and diagnostic compliance standards.
