Preventai is a fast-growing Swedish AI company transforming how surveillance infrastructure is used in retail. Our platform connects to existing camera systems and applies advanced Video Language Models (VLMs) to detect incidents and generate real-time alerts. We work with some of Sweden's largest grocery chains and are expanding our team to support increasingly complex networked environments.

About the Role

As an intern on Preventai's Machine Learning & Computer Vision team, you will support the development of real-time video analytics systems used in retail environments across Sweden. The role is designed to give you practical experience with modern AI pipelines—from model development to deployment—while working on production-grade systems.

You will assist in building and optimizing computer vision models, improving video streaming pipelines, and helping deploy AI services across cloud and on-prem environments. The work is hands-on and technical, and you will be exposed to the same tools and workflows used by our core engineering team.

During the internship, you will gain experience in:

Computer Vision & AI Models

  • Understanding tracking, action recognition, and VLM-based systems.
  • Training, testing, and evaluating models on real video data.
  • Applying model optimization techniques for low-latency inference.

Video Pipeline Engineering

  • Working with RTSP streams, multi-camera input, and FFmpeg.
  • Understanding how real-time video decoding and buffering works.

Infrastructure & Deployment

  • Deploying inference services using Docker, FastAPI/Flask, and REST APIs.
  • Working with GPU-accelerated environments, CUDA basics, and ONNX/TensorRT workflows.
  • Supporting deployments on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, GPU instances, Firestore, Storage).

Systems-Level Problem Solving

  • Debugging performance bottlenecks across models, networking, and system layers.
  • Working with multi-threaded and multi-process architectures for high-throughput streaming.

This role is suited for interns who:

  • Are comfortable with Python.
  • Have some coursework or interest in ML, computer vision, or systems engineering.
  • Enjoy practical problem-solving and working with real data.
  • Want hands-on exposure to production AI systems rather than theoretical projects.

Nice to Have
(Not required, but beneficial to learn or explore during the internship)

  • Basic experience with ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, or Triton Inference Server.
  • Familiarity with real-time video protocols (RTSP, HLS, WebRTC).
  • Exposure to CI/CD workflows or DevOps tools.
