Position: MS/HS Counselor [SEL]

Status: Full-Time

Division / Department: Secondary / Student Support

Reports To: HS Principal

This position provides the opportunity of working at a WASC accredited international school, managing small class sizes, and counseling academically motivated students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Chiang Mai International School provides a generous amount of planning time to allow counselors to prepare and present developmental guidance units, provide individual/group counseling, and to collaborate with teachers, parents and administration to monitor student progress. The successful candidate will be working collaboratively in a positive and supportive department with well-qualified professional colleagues.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Secondary School Counseling 
  • Teaching license / certification from an accredited university/college
  • Ability to teach developmental guidance lessons from Gr 6 – 12 (ages 11-18)
  • Minimum 2 years MS/HS counseling experience
  • College guidance training and experience
  • Student-centered, flexible, and creative 
  • Attentive to social-emotional learning needs of students
  • Commitment to collaborative planning
  • Proficient with educational, administrative and communication technology
  • Fluent in English with excellent writing skills

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Secondary School Counseling 
  • Experience teaching in a multicultural setting
  • Experience administering a variety of assessments and analyzing/communicating results
  • Experience in data analysis and goal setting to inform and improve instructional practices
    • Experience with interactive technology
    • Experience with differentiating and accommodating to meet learning and language needs

Major Job Responsibilities

  1. Plan and conduct the MS/HS developmental guidance curriculum (MS: Second Step)
  2. Coordinate with the wellness team to oversee Advisory/SEL integration grades 6-12.
  3. Create positive, engaging, and supportive school environment
  4. Assist in the scheduling of students; familiarity with Power School beneficial  
  5. Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and college/career plans
  6. Coordinate for all aspects of the college counseling process and organizing college visits/fairs
  7. Counsel individuals and small groups of students with social, emotional, developmental and academic needs
  8. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students
  9. Refer students with needs to appropriate program specialists or community agencies
  10. Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school
  11. Monitoring student grades and progress toward meeting CMIS promotion/graduation requirements
  12. Participate in and facilitate the intervention team process 
  13. Attend appropriate meetings regarding student growth and success (IEP and 504)
  14. Incorporate regular assessment data to inform program-based decisions
  15. Pursue continuous professional growth
  16. Meet all deadlines related to submission of documents, information, and records 
  17. Differentiate counseling approaches to meet the needs of all students
  18. Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and administration
  19. Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students and colleagues
  20. Report for and perform supervision duties as assigned
  21. Sponsor, organize and supervise at least one extracurricular activity for one semester
  22. Collaborate to plan, implement and chaperone school activities related to divisional, 'all school', classroom or activities
  23. Attend all required scheduled meetings involving students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration
  24. Serve on at least one school-based committee as assigned
  25. Travel with and supervise school-based field trips (day trips and/or overnight trips) as assigned
  26. Adhere to CMIS child protection policies
  27. Organize and conduct school-wide Mental Health Awareness events; provide Mental Health awareness and training for faculty/staff/students
  28. Understand Christian values and demonstrate positive character
  29. Perform other duties as assigned
