Chartering Manager
Are you an experienced Chartering Manager with a passion for shipping excellence, safety and sustainable operations? At Nynas, we are looking for a skilled Chartering Manager to take over the leadership of our established shipping department and elevate our chartering activities across feedstocks and finished products to the next level.
This is a key leadership role at the heart of our supply chain, with significant impact on safety, cost, reliability, and overall operational performance.
About the Role
As our Chartering Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all shipping activities within Nynas. You will lead the Chartering Department and represent the shipping function both internally and externally.
You will manage a significant part of Nynas' logistics cost base and play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, resilient and sustainable marine transport from and to our refineries, depots and other sites.
Based at our Stockholm Head Office, you'll collaborate across supply chain, operations, HSSE, finance, and key industry partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Full responsibility for chartering operations across Nynas, including vessel selection, contract negotiation, voyage instructions, and demurrage management.
- Ensure compliance with international regulations and Nynas HSSE standards.
- Oversee vetting, vessel suitability, and environmental requirements.
- Manage shipping budget, optimize costs, and report KPIs.
- Build strategic relationships with shipowners, brokers, and logistics providers.
- Drive risk management, contingency planning, and continuous improvement.
- Represent Nynas in HSSEQ networks and promote safety culture.
- Investigate incidents and embed learnings in operations.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Chartering team.
About You
You are a decisive, confident leader who thrives in fast-paced environments. Complex problems don't intimidate you, you break them down, assess risks, and make clear decisions under pressure.
You bring strong commercial acumen, deep knowledge of shipping contracts, and exceptional negotiation skills to secure competitive, safe, and reliable outcomes. You communicate with clarity, build trust, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
You challenge the status quo, seek smarter solutions, and take ownership, even beyond normal working hours when urgent issues arise, ensuring operational excellence and full accountability.
As a people focused leader, you set direction, develop talent, and foster a culture of trust, resilience, and continuous improvement.
In short: You're a fast thinking and decisive leader, a strong willed problem solver, skilled negotiator, and shipping expert who thrives on complexity and drives safety, efficiency, and collaboration.
Your Qualifications
- University degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Engineering or similar (Master's degree is a plus).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in marine chartering, ideally within oil, energy, or chemicals.
- Strong knowledge of freight markets, tanker operations, charter party contracts, demurrage and claims as well as maritime laws and international shipping regulations.
- Experience in both clean and dirty bulk cargoes; offshore logistics experience is a strong advantage.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret cost models and shipping data.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written), Swedish is a strong advantage
What We Offer
At Nynas, you'll be part of a company that values innovation, collaboration, and professional development. We're proud to foster an inclusive and supportive culture where your contributions truly matter. Our core values guide every aspect of our activities, ensuring that we: make it happen, take responsibility, make each other stronger and find new ways.
