Background:
The world of transport and logistics is rapidly transforming into a sustainable ecosystem and at Scania we are facing the biggest shift in our history. The supply base will change over time and we need to develop our logistic system for the future.
Objective:
The objective of this master thesis is to shape the future of Scania's logistics system by developing a simulation model that visualizes how upcoming changes in the global supply base will influence logistics performance. The project will enable Scania to evaluate different future scenarios and identify the optimal balance between cost efficiency, delivery precision, and sustainability.
You will contribute to creating a digital decision-support tool that helps Scania design a resilient and sustainable logistics network for tomorrow's transport ecosystem..
Job description:
As a master's student in this thesis project, you will play an active role in shaping the future logistics landscape of Scania. The work combines analysis, simulation, and strategic insight within a global industrial setting.
Your main responsibilities will include:

•    Analyze the current logistics network – conduct a thorough assessment of Scania's existing supply base and logistics setup, from global suppliers to central warehouses.9

•    Study future supply base evolution – identify and model trends that may affect Scania's logistics flows and material sourcing.

•    Develop a simulation model – design and implement a model that visualizes the impact of different supply chain scenarios, supporting decision-making on cost, lead time, and sustainability.

•    Perform scenario analysis – test and compare various future logistics configurations to determine optimal trade-offs between cost, quality, delivery precision, and environmental footprint.

•    Conduct center-of-gravity and transport network analyses – identify optimal warehouse and distribution center locations, transport routes, and flow consolidation opportunities.

•    Collaborate cross-functionally – work closely with colleagues in global logistics, purchasing, and supply chain development to ensure realistic assumptions and alignment with Scania's strategic goals.

•    Present results and recommendations – summarize your findings in a clear, visual, and actionable format that supports management decisions for Scania's future logistics strategy.
During the thesis, you will be guided by an experienced mentor and have access to expertise across Scania's global logistics organization. The work will be conducted on-site in Södertälje, with opportunities to interact with various departments and stakeholders.

Education:
We are looking for motivated students enrolled in a Master's or Bachelor's programme within the field of Logistics, Production, Industrial Management, or other relevant areas of study.
You should:

•    Have strong collaboration and communication skills, and enjoy working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.

•    Be curious, analytical, and solution-oriented, with a genuine interest in logistics and problem-solving.

•    Work independently and efficiently within given frameworks, while taking initiative when exploring new ideas.

•    Have good proficiency in both Swedish and English, in speech and writing.
