Position description

An appointment as associate senior lecturer is a fixed-term career-development position of at least four years and at the most six years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 12 a. The purpose of the appointment is for the teacher to have the opportunity to develop research autonomy and acquire the scholarly and teaching qualifications required for the eligibility requirement for appointment as a senior lecturer.

The position is based on a distribution of work comprising 60% research and 40% teaching. The role includes working in a structured manner to meet the qualifications required for a permanent position as senior lecturer.

The research component involves collaborating with colleagues in ongoing and upcoming research projects, as well as contributing to the development of new research areas that can be linked to our existing Master's programme in Environmental Engineering. A particular focus will be on urban farming and agrivoltaic solutions, with an emphasis on analysing plant quality. Research findings are expected to be published in high-quality scientific journals, in collaboration with research leaders, professors, and other senior colleagues. The role also includes contributing to the development of new research proposals relevant to the field of Environmental Engineering and the research environment Future Energy.

Upon promotion to senior lecturer

By the end of the appointment as an associate senior lecturer the applicant has the right to be assessed for appointment to senior lecturer. The appointment to senior lecturer is until further notice.

The application for promotion must have been received no later than six months before the end of the appointment period. At the time of promotion to senior lecturer the applicant must have completed a qualifying course in higher education pedagogy.

To be eligible to be promoted as a senior lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated the scholarly expertise and teaching skills required for such an appointment.

The eligibility qualifications and assessment criteria required to be promoted and appointed as a senior lecturer are stated in Appotintment Regulations for Mälardalen University

For this position, specific criteria also apply for promotion to senior lecturer:

1. The employee has demonstrated the ability to independently plan and deliver high-quality teaching.The employee has been involved in the supervision of doctoral students.

2. The employee has been actively engaged in programme and/or course development.

3. The employee has demonstrated the ability to work as an independent researcher, resulting in high-quality articles published in reputable international scientific journals.

4. The employee has demonstrated the ability to prepare and manage high-quality research funding applications relevant to the Future Energy Center (FEC).

5. The employee has successfully managed research projects or parts of research projects.

6. The employee has been actively involved in national and international collaborations with partners relevant to FEC.

7. The employee is established as an international researcher, with assignments such as reviewer of manuscripts and/or grant applications and/or as an invited speaker at conferences.
