Location:
Traton R&D TGREEPCM, Environmental Verification Laboratory, Scania Technical Center, Södertälje. 20 min from Stockholm Central with regional trains (Mälartåg, SJ).

About the Scania group:
The EEPCT group at Scania performs accelerated ageing test of vehicle parts that contain electrical or electronic components. This includes e-machines, lithium-ion propulsion batteries, charging inlets, computer screens, lamps, USB-chargers, LIDAR etc.

Background:
LM80 is a standard used to evaluate the lifetime and light quality of LED light sources over time. To enable in-house testing, we are looking for a motivated thesis student to help design and build a complete LM80 test station.

Objective:
The goal of the project is to design, build, and validate a test environment that enables long-term measurement of LED components according to the LM80 standard. The focus will be on logging and analyzing:

•    Temperature (component and ambient)

•    Current and voltage (to monitor operating conditions)

•    Light quality (intensity, color temperature, color rendering)

Tasks:

•    Design of the test setup based on the 19-inch rack standard, including selection of sensors and measurement equipment

•    Implementation of a data logging system (e.g., using LabVIEW, Python, or similar)

•    Calibration and verification of measurement data

•    Documentation according to LM80 requirements

•    Presentation of results and recommendations for future testing

Job description:

•    Literature study of the field

•    Interviews of internal and external experts

•    Example design of a setup

•    Can data be used for Prognostics and Health Management?

•    Calculate the expected accumulated energy savings with an increased number of EV' over the coming ten years.

•    Report writing and presentations.

•    The project can be a collaboration with other internal groups at Traton or external stakeholders 
 
Who are you:
You are a master's student in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field. You have:

•    Interest in electronics, measurement technology, and lighting

•    Basic knowledge in programming and data acquisition

•    Preferably knowledge in LIN, CAN and PWM protocols

•    Ability to work independently and in a structured manner

•    Good communication skills in English and/or Swedish
