Carbon Capture and Utilization Scientist

We are committed to driving innovation and societal impact through our research and education. As a PhD researcher in Biochemical Process Engineering, you will contribute to the development of sustainable technologies that utilize biomass and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Our research group is part of the Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Resources, with a diverse range of expertise in areas such as biotechnology, chemistry, and environmental science. You will be part of a vibrant research community that collaborates with international partners, national companies, and regional actors to drive innovation and societal impact.
The successful candidate will work on enzyme discovery, characterization, and improvement for application in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage processes. This includes the development of ultra-stable promoters to increase CO2 capturing rates and removal efficiency of carbonate solutions.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual with a strong interest in research and development. You must have excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently. A master's degree in chemical engineering, industrial biotechnology, enzymology, or a relevant field is required.
Beyond your academic qualifications, we value hands-on experience in enzyme mining from genomes and/or metagenomic databases, enzyme discovery, enzyme improvement (directed evolution, rational design), and/or use of advanced bioinformatics tools. Previous experience with laboratory equipment and relevant practical experience, such as upstream and downstream enzyme production and enzyme assays, are also considered advantageous.
