Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Professor in Fundamental Characterization and Modelling of Biomass to join our team at Chalmers tekniska högskola. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific track record and a desire to develop their independent research career in a highly diverse, multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a distinct line of research through independent research projects

  • Disseminate research results and outreach to society
Requirements
  • PhD degree in a relevant field not older than 7 years prior to the application deadline
  • Post-doctoral appointment or the equivalent
  • Conducted research resulting in publications in leading journals of your field of research and presentations at leading conferences
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in national and international collaborations
  • Demonstrated pedagogical competence
  • Experience in applying for research funding
What We Offer

Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. We strive to ensure and maintain a balance in terms of gender and diversity. The position is a four-year, entry-level, faculty position with tenure track, whereby you will acquire both pedagogical and research qualifications. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve the ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop skills in teaching and supervision, by means of both practical training and independent study.

The successful candidate will receive a generous start-up package, which will provide the opportunity to build an independent research line on advanced methodologies for characterization of the plant cell wall and its components, of processing methods and of the obtained materials. The candidate is expected to build a research group with expertise in one of the following areas: molecular characterization of biomass and polymer interactions, correlative electron microscopy, scattering techniques (including synchrotron-based X-ray scattering techniques) or soft matter modelling such as molecular dynamics simulations.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
