Vattenfall is seeking a talented individual to contribute to our mission of achieving a fossil-free future. As a senior hydroelectric engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing chute energy dissipation and mitigating downstream impacts on river ecosystems.
Project Overview
The project involves innovative chute roughness solutions for improved hydraulic performance at high discharges. You will work with experimental data from Vattenfall R&D Älvkarleby and perform CFD modeling to evaluate chute roughness arrangements. Your goal is to achieve the following objectives:
- Familiarize yourself with experimental procedures, roughness element design, and CFD modeling techniques.
- Clarify turbulence flow structures and efficiency improvement at the roughness elements.
- Enhance understanding of chute spillway energy dissipation.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Reviewing previous model tests and simulating typical flow cases.
- Developing CFD skills for modeling of chute spillway flows.
- Collecting and analyzing data on spillway geometry and flows.
- Writing a comprehensive report on your findings.
Requirements
We are looking for a qualified candidate with a strong background in civil (hydraulic) engineering, engineering physics, or similar disciplines. You should have a good command of written English and be interested in hydropower, dam safety, and hydraulic engineering. The project duration is approximately four months, and you will work independently with guidance from a supervisor at Vattenfall R&D.
