Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Artifact Manager to join our team at the IKEA Museum. As a key member of the Archive & Collection department, you will be responsible for the care and preservation of our unique collection of artifacts.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  1. Assessing the condition of the collection and developing strategies for long-term preservation.
  2. Working closely with cross-departmental stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of conservation practice.
  3. Collaborating with other museums to share knowledge and best practices in conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on the condition of the collection, identifying areas of risk and developing plans to mitigate these risks.
  • Develop and implement integrated pest management strategies to protect the collection.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that all activities related to the collection are conducted in accordance with best practices in conservation.

Requirements

  • A recognized professional conservation qualification at degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience working in the heritage sector, preferably in a museum or gallery setting.
  • Proven conservation skills and knowledge of mechanisms involved in material deterioration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve set objectives.
  • Familiarity with conservation theory and best practices in display, loans, and storage activities.
