We are seeking a highly motivated microbiologist to join our research team at Chalmers tekniska högskola. The selected candidate will work on designing and creating novel, 3D printed materials containing live yeast cells.

About the Project

The scope of this two-year project is to develop sustainable materials with unique properties using genetic engineering tools. You will collaborate closely with material chemists and architects to formulate, produce, and test innovative, nature-based materials.

About the Department

Our department conducts research, innovation, and education to enable a biobased society and improve human health. We focus on systems biology, chemical biology, industrial biotechnology, and food and nutrition science. Our researchers engineer biological systems to produce foods, drugs, and chemicals sustainably.

About the Division

The postdoc position is placed at the division for renewable raw materials, which focuses on sustainable production of fuels and chemicals. Our portfolio includes fermentation technology, metabolic engineering, and enzyme discovery. We have an extensive instrument platform for analytics, molecular biology, fermentation, and protein production and purification.

Responsibilities
  • Design and create novel, 3D printed materials containing live yeast cells
  • Collaborate with material chemists and architects to develop sustainable materials
  • Use genetic engineering tools to improve inherent yeast properties and provide new properties such as environmental responsiveness and metabolite production
Requirements
  • MSc or PhD degree in microbiology, biochemistry, or related field
  • Excellent understanding of genetic engineering tools and their applications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
Salary

We offer a competitive salary range of SEK 380,000 - 440,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
