Position Overview
As a Wind Turbine Commissioning Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to transition a wind turbine generator (WTG) from a mechanical state to an early operational phase. This includes conducting all necessary tests and verifications to ensure the equipment is in optimal condition for safe turbine operation. Your goal is to prepare a post-inspected turbine for handover, ensuring it meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role requires a willingness to travel within the Nordic region and involves a rotation schedule of two weeks on-site followed by two weeks off.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Nordex HSE regulations and specific safety standards for construction sites during all commissioning activities.
- Take responsibility for the safety of yourself, your partner, and all stakeholders impacted by your work.
- Accurately complete all commissioning documentation and report the commissioning status to site management.
- Commission the turbine and its associated assemblies, ensuring readiness for operation.
- Communicate quality, status, and progress issues to site management and the Lead Commissioner.
- Address and rectify defects encountered during the commissioning process.
- Ensure the readiness of wind farm control systems and site communications.
- Provide support for technical issues during the project management phase.
- Oversee Condition Monitoring Commissioning and testing activities.
- Conduct pre-commissioning inspections to verify turbine readiness.
- Issue quality notes and non-conformity reports as necessary during the commissioning period.
- Coordinate with site management to order parts required for repairs.
- Report any quality deviations for inclusion in the uniform snag list.
- Resolve minor quality issues upon identification, such as cabling problems.
- Forward commissioning reports for the converter to the manufacturer for warranty purposes.
- Capture and document data and parameters prior to operational release and submit to the Head of Commissioning.
- Perform independent fault analysis and repair minor faults, providing feedback to the Site Manager.
- Collaborate with the Site Manager on activities related to the switch-on and switch-off operations of the WTG/WF.
Candidate Profile
- Significant experience as an Electrician or Service Technician.
- Previous experience in a commissioning role.
- Strong technical knowledge of Nordex turbines.
- Proficient in technical report writing.
- Experience in electrical and mechanical installation, voltage testing, and quality management.
- Familiarity with programmable control systems.
- Experience with torqueing, bolt stretching, and lifting equipment.
- Qualified to Engineering Level (HND/HNC) or equivalent degree.
- Completed commissioning training (both on and off the job).
- Possess a full clean driving license.
- Fluent in English.
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols (LOTO/WTRS).
- Computer literate, proficient in MS Office applications.
- Physically and mentally fit, capable of working at heights.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Systematic approach to problem-solving.
- Health and safety conscious.
- Ability to work with complex systems and processes.
- Team-oriented, with the ability to lead when necessary.
- Willingness to travel regularly, including extended periods away from home.
- Flexibility to work shifts and overtime, sometimes at short notice.
