Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Material Engineer to join our team at Northvolt Revolt AB. As a key member of our materials development group, you will play a crucial role in the development of sustainable, high-performing, and cost-competitive cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Your primary responsibilities will include leading projects or tasks in the material development area, building knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and applying them to our work. This includes participating in the development of patent applications.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Developing cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries
  • Characterizing and validating cathode materials using physical and chemical methods
  • Leading projects or tasks, including planning experiments, performing tests, summarizing results, drawing conclusions, reporting, and updating stakeholders
  • Staying up-to-date on literature and patents in the cathode active material area
  • Supporting industrial-scale CAM manufacturing and recycling operations through targeted investigations and deep dives
  • Carrying out experiments to optimize the performance of Northvolt's in-house precursor and Cathode Active Material (CAM), encompassing both chemical composition and processing parameters
  • Ensuring material preparation and characterization, including external material benchmarking
  • Analyzing materials characterization and electrochemical data to evaluate different CAM samples
  • Delivering development progress to follow-up team objectives, such as milestones
  • Facilitating communication and clarification of technical requirements between customers and Northvolt's internal stakeholders
Requirements:
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in engineering (material, chemical, or similar)
  • At least 3 years of experience in cathode materials development
  • Strong analytical skills, including material characterization and coin cell testing
  • Experience with anode materials (plus is desired)
  • Able to work well in a team environment, as well as independently
  • Experience in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to manage working tasks effectively
