Mechanical Fabricator

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fabricator to join our team at the University of Rochester. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified individual to work on various mechanical projects and contribute to the upkeep of our facilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing, and maintaining mechanical apparatus, machines, facilities, and equipment. This includes working with precision gauges, gears, fixtures, and lathes to complete complex tasks.

This role requires advanced knowledge and skill to perform machinery and bench operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in close tolerances and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Laying out, planning, and completing all mechanical fabrication and assembly assignments
• Sets up and operates own machines as required
• Works from blue prints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and verbal instructions or from experience in completing mechanical assignments and/or diagnosing apparatus, machine, facility, and/or equipment troubles

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent educational training
• Able to read and write English; to use shop mathematics, charts, tables, and handbook formulae; to read and interpret specialized drawings and diagrams
• Completion of approved apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of formal training and experience
