As a research assistant, you will work at Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB, SKB, where our mission is to safely manage radioactive waste from Swedish nuclear power plants. This involves meeting the most stringent safety requirements for humans and the environment.
In the unit Research and post-closure safety, we are responsible for analyzing radiological safety after repository closure. The aim of this project is to develop a simple model using differential equations to estimate time-resolved deposition of radioactive substances in reactor water, diffusion into the system oxide, and redissolution in reactor water.
This model will contribute to safety analysis calculations, enabling better estimation of radionuclide inventory of deposited nuclear waste. The outcomes of this project will be shared with the European project EURAD-2, which focuses on improving long-term safety of radioactive waste disposal.
The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent programming skills in Python, and experience with developing models. Additionally, proficiency in both written and spoken Swedish and English is required.
- We are looking for a motivated student who wants to contribute to fossil-free electricity production and a sustainable society.
- A good level of Swedish and English language skills is essential.
To be considered for this project, applicants should have a bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field, with a strong focus on environmental remediation. A good understanding of Python programming and modeling techniques is necessary. Experience with working on large datasets and contributing to team projects is also highly valued.
