**Job Title:** Cyber Security R&D Engineer

About Us:

We are part of the Technology and Solutions Development organization in HVDC, Hitachi Energy. The HVDC technology has been on the market for 60 years, enabling renewable energy integration and supporting a sustainable future.

Your Responsibilities:
  • You will identify, test, and develop configurations for IT/OT infrastructure devices required for HVDC Control and Protection systems deployment.
  • You will implement industrial cybersecurity standards, develop functionalities, and drive improvement of our security posture.
  • You will serve as an expert for projects needing guidance with cybersecurity activities and adherence.
  • You will assist with gate reviews and checklists related to cybersecurity activities.
  • You will drive release clearance activities, including CSAC and Code Signing Certifications.
  • You will participate in security testing to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed before release.
  • You will perform product hardening to allow only necessary functions for operation.
  • You will implement group policies, install, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, routers, and firewalls.
  • You will develop, evaluate, and implement security policies and procedures, create technical documentation and reports, and participate in customer meetings.
  • You will implement and design gateway security layouts, install and harden firewall security.
  • You will monitor and validate third-party security patches to ensure system reliability is maintained.
  • You will implement host-based security technologies, such as antivirus, data leakage prevention, host IPS, and whitelisting.
  • You will install and manage network-based intrusion detection products.
  • You will understand and implement system backup strategies and technologies.
  • You will create automated scripts using Bat/.Vbs/PowerShell/Perl and Python to optimize regular work and act efficiently in daily activities.
  • You may temporarily or permanently take on the role of Product Security Engineer for MACH Software Operations division.
Your Background:
  • You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • You have work authorization that permits you to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • You have knowledge in defense in depth, default deny, least privilege, compartmentalization, privileged initiation, RBAC, etc.
  • You have a good understanding of basic cybersecurity controls, such as IDS/IPS (host and network), hardening, security policies, malware protection, filtering, NGFW, etc.
  • You have knowledge in networking, patch management, industrial protocols like DNP/MODBUS/IEC 61850, PRP, etc.
  • You have hands-on experience with protocols like HTTP, HTTPS, SSL, SSH, ICMP, DHCP, L2TP, PPTP, DNS, SNMP, RDP, and NTP, Windows and Virtual Machine Administration.
  • You have experience with security tools like NMAP, Nessus, Wireshark, etc.
  • You have knowledge on security standards like IEC 62443, ISO 27001.
  • You have experience with network equipment (firewalls, switches, GPS clocks) and redundant network designs/protocols.
  • You have experience with Microsoft client and server operating systems from legacy to current generations.
  • You have experience with Active Directory and its different roles, integration with third-party devices and appliances.
  • You have experience with databases and high availability solutions.
  • You have experience with port, vulnerability, and malware scanners, able to digest and communicate the output.
  • You have knowledge of intrusion detection systems, security information event monitoring, application control, and other security-relevant systems.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is required.
