Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics in Uppsala. As a key member of our research programme, you will be responsible for designing and developing instrumentation for future spacecraft.

Your primary focus will be on the development and documentation of two instruments currently being evaluated for ESA M-class missions. This will involve:

  • Requirements handling and technical budgets for space instruments.
  • Planning of assembly and testing of systems for use in space.
  • Information gathering from international partners.
  • Setting requirements and reviewing documentation for other teams.

You will work closely with our team to coordinate different aspects of the instrument, including international collaborations that may involve domestic and international travel.

Techincal documentation is a crucial part of this role, as well as verbally communicating results to stakeholders.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering with a focus on electronics, mechanics or equivalent.

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Practical experience of electrical and mechanical tests for demanding environments.
  • Previous experience in working with ESA and ECSS.
  • Experience of project management.

Fluency in both spoken and written English is essential due to the extensive international contacts involved in this role.

This position demands independence, accuracy, initiative and problem-solving skills across multiple technical areas. Strong collaboration skills within the group and with external parties are also required.
