We are looking for a Head of Software Engineering

The role

Our high performing Software Engineering team is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that are part of our product portfolio or used as internal support systems. The team currently consists of 9 employees and around 10 consultants reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering.

As Head of Software Engineering, you will oversee daily operations and own the software development process and projects. Software solutions are delivered upon request with specification coming from various parts of the organization, including solutions such as Global SIM Local Access (GSLA) and Device-to-Cloud. AWS and Salesforce are two examples of environments often relevant for the work, although the full scope spans across several environments and programming languages, including embedded software.

As Head of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for planning and acting on training and competence needs, capacity building and growth of team members. You will identify and address short- and long-term competence and capacity needs, ensuring in-house solution competence is maintained. You'll monitor and manage development costs, collaborate with the Sourcing Manager on consultant agreements, and recruit and manage external development resources. The role will involve maintaining the quality and effectiveness of team deliveries and optimizing staffing by balancing internal employees and consultants within budget. Together with Head of CNO (Cloud Network Operations), you will also co-own Connexion’s DevOps framework and ensure the identifying and assigning of post-launch responsibilities, including Life Cycle Management aspects.

This is a broad cross-functional role with relations to multiple departments internally, but also towards several stakeholders at all levels within Telenor Group as well as our customers’ organizations. This role reports to CTO of Telenor Connexion, and you will be part of the CTO management team together with the Heads of Product Management, Project Management, Technology Architecture, Data Science and Analytics, Roaming and Sourcing departments.

Tasks and responsibilities

As Head of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for implementing the necessary tools and services to ensure your team can perform their tasks efficiently. While daily coding is not the primary focus of this managerial role, a strong background and experience in software development is essential to effectively support your team and drive the company's strategic agenda in software engineering.

- Software & Application Maintenance

- Technology partner management
- Innovation (technology driven changes and solutions)
- Project driven work, often in an agile manner
- Test and Development environment maintenance

Tasks and responsibilities:

- Ensure all software platforms in use are well documented and that operative tasks are handed off to Operations
- Ensure that all development processes and projects comply with regulations and internal policies and standards, including ISO27001/ISO9001 standards and GDPR.
- Maintain extensive technology supplier knowhow
- Keep up with market and industry trends
- Evaluate and consider introduction of new and emerging technologies
- Assess and plan for phasing out outdated technology nodes
- Ensure that build, test, and deploy strategies adhere to industry best practices.
- Maintain relationship and influence Group strategies, regarding cross BU support for software development.
- Member of CAB (Connexion Architecture Board) and provide expertise on Development aspects

Experience and skills

- MSc/BSc in Software Engineering or equivalent degree
- Minimum 8 years of industry experience
- Experience from management and leadership roles
- Experience in Software development methodologies, tools and best practices
- Experience in Cloud based software architectures in general, Amazon Web Services in particular
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swedish
