At Swerim, we conduct research in collaboration with world-leading manufacturers and users of high-performance metallic materials, such as high strength steels, stainless steels and aluminum alloys. The "Structures in Metallic Materials" group focuses on characterizing structures at all length scales down to the atomic level to increase the understanding of the relationship between alloy chemistry, manufacturing processes, microstructure, and properties in metallic materials. The group is responsible for metallographic methods with a special focus on electron microscopy.

Job Description
We are looking to strengthen our team in aluminum alloys for lightweight applications and electrification, with focus on aaluminium alloys with a low carbon footprint. The applicant will participate in both short term and long-term research projects focusing on aluminum alloys for transport and automative applications, such as heat exchangers, batteries and more. The position includes characterization of the microstructure of materials, research project management, interactions and close collaboration with several research partners and customers.

The work will focus on the use and further development of our analysis instruments, primarily electron microscopy and micro-analysis, for aluminum alloys. The work is carried out in close collaboration with industry, but also other research institutes, and universities, both in Sweden and internationally. You will have an independent role while being part of a strong research team with well-established cooperation throughout the company. There are also great opportunities to influence the future direction of the work based on your own drive and initiative.

Qualifications
* You have a PhD or master’s degree in material science, engineering or equivalent with a focus on metallic materials. A few years of industry experience is advantageous.
* You have experience of aluminium alloys. Knowledge related to recycling processes, and the effect of tramp elemments on microstructure and properties of aluminum alloys is of a great advantage.
* A good understanding of the relationship between alloy chemistry, manufacturing processes, microstructure, and properties in metallic materials is required.
* Experience with SEM, EDS and EBSD for metallic materials is a requirement; experience with TEM is a plus.
