Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE) at the Department of Physics seeks an ambitious, motivated, structured, and collaborative postdoc to join the nuclear fuel materials team. The project will study fission product kinetics by ion implantation of advanced nuclear fuel (Uranium Nitride). It is supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and in collaboration with Westinghouse and Uppsala University. The role includes leading research efforts using experimental and computational methods to evaluate fission product diffusion kinetics and the formation of the high burnup structure (HBS) in uranium nitride.
Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree obtained by the time the employment decision is made.
- PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering Mechanics or a related field.
Preferred qualifications
- Doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
- Hands‑on experience with sintering, powder metallurgy and characterization techniques.
- Knowledge and experience in mesoscale modelling and multiphysics finite‑element modelling.
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.
- Teamwork competence and the ability to work independently.
- Strong motivation and dedication to research.
- Teaching experience is an advantage.
- Awareness of diversity and equal‑opportunity issues, especially gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
The position offered is for, at the most, two years.
