Your New Role...

The Direct-to-Consumer Group is a technology company within Warner Bros. Discovery. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all our network's brands globally. We are building modern container-based micro-services operated on AWS. We build user experiences ranging from classic lean-back viewing to interactive learning applications. We build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of WBD-owned networks and products worldwide. We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our engineering team in Sweden.

Your Role Accountabilities...

  1. You can work autonomously to design and develop functional changes to existing software systems with little or no guidance from team members, while still seeking input where appropriate.
  2. You can collaborate with other engineers and assist with features designed by others or take the lead on feature design yourself.
  3. Your software contributions are demonstrated to work in production, and your team trusts your decisions, designs, and code.
  4. You show good judgment in making trade-offs between immediate and long-term business needs.
  5. You can describe and defend your design and code decisions, embrace constructive feedback, and adapt your approach to align with team and company standards and objectives.
  6. You consistently demonstrate good software ownership practices (e.g. code reviews, code comments, etc.) in all of your contributions.
  7. You can troubleshoot a production issue by reviewing source code, logs, operational metrics, stack trace, etc. to pinpoint a specific problem and then resolve it.

Qualifications and Experience...

  1. 5-7 years of experience within Software Development and proficient in Java 17 or other JVM languages.
  2. Deep understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, Minikube, and AWS.
  3. Good understanding of CI/CD tools like Jenkins and GitHub Action.
  4. Good working understanding of asynchronous messaging frameworks like Kafka.
  5. Great understanding of distributed systems challenges, micro-service-based architectures, and asynchronous communication.
  6. Experience and good understanding of implementing alerting, metrics, and logging using tools like Prometheus, CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, Kibana, PagerDuty.
  7. Practical knowledge of contract-first development model and ability to design.
  8. Practical knowledge of persistence and caching solutions such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, Caffeine.
  9. Good understanding of database modeling and fine-tuning database queries for optimal performance.
  10. Good understanding of asynchronous, non-blocking, functional/reactive style of programming with hands-on experience with frameworks such as Spring WebFlux, Vert.x.
