Join the Cloud Platform Team We are responsible for developing and maintaining the GKE Platform for all games at King. In our team, we focus on reliability, performance and scalability–our platform supports an average traffic of millions of requests per second from all our beloved games. We work closely with King's teams to support game feature development, handle intense traffic events and highly concurrent data storage.

In our daily work, we promote creativity and innovation by adopting the latest technologies and constantly improving and evolving our platform.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer in a gaming company with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure, you will lead the design, maintenance, and optimization of the enterprise cloud environment. You will work extensively with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes, and modern DevOps tooling to ensure our game services are highly available, scalable, and secure. This role emphasizes advanced networking, infrastructure automation, observability, and close collaboration with game development teams. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Kubernetes & Cloud Management: Maintain and optimize Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters in GCP, ensuring high availability and peak performance of containerized game services across multiple regions and environments.
  2. Infrastructure as Code: Utilize Terraform and Crossplane to define and manage infrastructure as code (IaC).
  3. Scalability Engineering: Develop strategies for capacity planning, auto-scaling, and performance optimization to ensure a smooth player experience during peak loads.
  4. Monitoring & Observability: Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring solutions using the full OpenTelemetry (OTel) stack for traces/metrics and Grafana for visualization.
  5. Cloud Networking: Oversee cloud networking architecture, including BGP routing configuration, cross-network peering, and IPv6 support for future-proof connectivity.
  6. Service Mesh & Traffic Management: Manage the Istio service mesh for fine-grained traffic control, security, and observability within Kubernetes clusters. Configure and optimize Google Cloud Load Balancers and related traffic management services to handle millions of requests per second, ensuring low latency and high reliability for globally distributed game services.
  7. Cloud Resource Provisioning: Provision and manage a variety of GCP cloud resources for game teams. This includes setting up Cloud SQL instances for relational databases.
  8. Cloud-Native Tools Integration: Work with cloud-native components to extend and enhance our Kubernetes-based platform. Crossplane for direct Kubernetes-driven cloud resource orchestration.
  9. CI/CD Pipeline Automation: Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to accelerate development and deployment cycles. Utilize tools such as Google Cloud Build, Jenkins, and Atlantis (for Terraform automation) to automate testing and deployment of infrastructure and application code.
  10. Security & Best Practices: Create security-first infrastructure, ensuring that every system and service is built with stability, robustness, and scalability in mind.
  11. Reliability & Incident Management: Take ownership of the reliability of the platform. Troubleshoot distributed systems and resolve production incidents efficiently, acting as a highest-level escalation point for infrastructure issues.
  12. Leadership & Mentorship: Lead critical projects from conception through production deployment, making high-level architectural decisions and coordinating across teams.
  13. Culture & Innovation: Foster a fun, humble, open, and innovative engineering culture within the team. Encourage brainstorming of new ideas and continuous improvement of our tech stack.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of networking, cloud architecture, and DevOps expertise, along with a passion for gaming and innovation. Key skills and experience include:

  1. Cloud Networking Expertise: Deep understanding of enterprise-level networking in cloud environments. Proficiency with BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) for routing, network peering arrangements between cloud and on-premise or multi-cloud environments, and IPv6 configuration.
  2. Container Orchestration Mastery: Extensive experience with Kubernetes and managing Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters at scale.
  3. Infrastructure as Code Proficiency: Strong proficiency with IaC tools, especially Terraform for defining cloud infrastructure and Crossplane for Kubernetes-centric resource management. Ability to design modular and reusable Terraform modules, manage state and handle infrastructure drift.
  4. CI/CD and GitOps: Hands-on experience building and maintaining complex CI/CD pipelines. Proficiency with Google Cloud Build and/or Jenkins for continuous integration, or similar tools for managing release workflows.
  5. Security & Governance: Familiarity with cloud-native security best practices and governance processes. Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM) in GCP, including service accounts and fine-grained IAM roles. Experience with secrets management solutions like HashiCorp Vault or cloud KMS, and implementing encryption for data at rest and in transit.
  6. Scalability & Resilience: Proven ability to design and maintain highly scalable, resilient infrastructure for mission-critical applications (ideally gaming backends or similarly demanding systems). Experience with autoscaling strategies, global traffic management, and designing systems that gracefully handle failures.
