Technical Project Manager

Research shows that women and other under-represented groups within our industry hesitate to apply unless they tick most boxes of a role description. At Stegra, we are building an impact company with sustainability at its core. We need a diverse, inclusive, and authentic team to rally behind our purpose of de-carbonizing hard-to-abate industries, starting with steel.
If you are equally passionate about our purpose yet concerned that your experience doesn't perfectly align with the qualifications stated in the job advert, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate, either for this role – or for another upcoming role in our rapidly growing business.
About us:
Stegra, formerly known as H2 Green Steel, is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. But this is just the beginning – our expertise in green hydrogen will enable us to decarbonize other industries in addition to steel, and we look forward to what's next in store for us.
We are looking for talented, innovative, and purpose-driven people to join our rapidly growing and diverse team. Our employees get to learn every day, implement the latest technology and test and put their ideas into practice. Together, we are building an impact company with sustainability at its core – for our people, customers, investors, society, and planet.
Technical Project Manager - Project Development
Project Development is a function within the Project Delivery organization at Stegra. As a member of this team, you will play a key role in delivering fast-tracked projects by ensuring technical excellence in early-phase project execution. The Technical Project Development Manager reports to the Head of Project Development and is based in Stockholm.
We are currently delivering our first plant in Boden, Sweden. For our future projects, we aim to combine continuous improvement with leveraging lessons learned from previous projects to deliver cost-efficient decarbonization projects through the integration of the best available technologies. Your role will be central in ensuring that our projects build on past experiences while integrating cutting-edge engineering methodologies for efficient and sustainable delivery.
As Technical Project Development Manager, you will lead the technical development of early-phase mega projects. You will drive pre-FEED and FEED studies, ensuring sound engineering principles, risk assessment, and alignment with project requirements. You will work closely with engineering and technology partners, ensuring cost-effective and reliable project concepts and designs.
You will be responsible for defining technical execution strategies, evaluating engineering partners, overseeing early engineering and permitting studies, and developing Stegra's technical standards and toolbox for future projects. You will participate in and conduct early-stage gate reviews on behalf of Project Delivery to ensure project readiness.
To succeed in this role, you must be able to maintain a holistic perspective while also understanding and challenging the need for technical maturity. You should be comfortable navigating complex engineering challenges, leading external studies, and taking ownership of technical evaluations for key partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and implement technical strategies for early-phase project development.
- Lead pre-FEED and FEED studies, ensuring robust engineering design and risk assessments.
- Manage engineering partners and oversee early engineering and permitting studies.
- Develop Stegra's engineering standards and methodologies for future projects.
- Ensure technical maturity and feasibility of project concepts before execution.
- Identify and drive modularization studies and standardization opportunities.
- Participate in business case development and site selection from a technical perspective.
- Collaborate with the Project Development team to optimize engineering solutions for fast-tracked project execution.
Requirements & Skills:
- You are knowledgeable yet humble, with a strong drive for technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- You have 10+ years of experience in large-scale greenfield projects across all project phases.
- Proven track record in successfully delivering pre-FEED and FEED studies for mega projects.
- Experience in technical project management within engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Strong ability to navigate complex engineering challenges and collaborate with multiple disciplines.
- Comfortable leading technical deep dives while maintaining a high-level project strategy.
- Ownership of technical evaluations for engineering and technology partners.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Holds a master's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technical leadership position, ensuring that engineering excellence is embedded in early-phase industrial projects while supporting fast-track project execution.
Location: Stockholm, Stegra AB
What we can offer you:
If you are passionate about making actual change and having a positive impact on society and our planet, Stegra offers a unique opportunity to be part of a fun and professional team with high ambitions. You will get the opportunity to shape your future career together with a company focusing on creating a culture where everyone can thrive and feel a sense of belonging. In the end, we know that Stegra's growth and success are dependent on our people and we can't wait to shape the future of steelmaking and other industries together as a team.
