Job Opening:

The position of Chief Scientist / Head of Unit Scientific Methods and Standards at ECDC in Stockholm, Sweden is currently available. This role involves reporting to the Director and being an integral part of the Centre's management team, contributing to its strategic direction. The Jobholder will be responsible for overseeing scientific excellence and independence, coordinating scientific studies, identifying research priorities, and leading the Scientific Methods and Standards Unit.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Scientific Methods and Standards Unit, focusing on creating clear and value-added scientific outputs while ensuring compliance with ECDC's regulatory framework.
  • Develop and implement strategies, in collaboration with internal and external partners, to optimize resource allocation and utilization for relevant and independent outputs.
  • Establish strong strategic relations with EU institutions, Member States, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead knowledge transfer and science-based recommendations to enhance ECDC's impact on public health policy.
  • Organize and enhance the European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Diseases Epidemiology (ESCAIDE).
  • Ensure editorial independence for Eurosurveillance, providing high-quality, open-access information for public health experts.
  • Drive forward-looking activities through foresight and modeling to be anticipatory and proactive.
  • Contribute to other ECDC activities within the field of expertise.
