Are you a skilled Android Engineer who is passionate about UI and dedicated to crafting visually appealing and scalable user experiences? If this resonates with you, we are excited to welcome you as the pioneering Android Engineer in our innovative Design System team.
Joining the Design System team means you will spearhead the development and maintenance of a library of design tokens and UI components that serves as the universal design framework for both engineers and designers. You will also play a crucial role in enabling other team members to contribute to the design system, while serving as the Android UI expert at Wolt. Your responsibilities will include promoting UI best practices company-wide and exerting a significant influence on various feature teams. By providing a Design Systems library for Android, your objective will be to enhance design and development efficiency, quality, and uniformity across all of Wolt's products, including consumer, courier, and merchant applications.
As an Android Engineer, you will engage in development using both Jetpack Compose and traditional Android Views. Your tasks will involve establishing and managing a fresh shared UI library for consumption by fellow Android Engineers. This library should be easy to maintain, offer reusable and scalable APIs, and be comprehensively documented and tested.
The current team comprises 4 Web Engineers, 1 iOS Engineer, and 2 Design System Designers.
This role is open for individuals interested in working at our tech hubs in Helsinki or Stockholm, or for those preferring remote work from anywhere in Finland or Sweden. For those outside these locations, we provide relocation assistance for a smooth transition to Finland or Sweden.
QualificationsWe are seeking a candidate with a background in constructing top-notch UI components and expertise in developing a flexible shared library that is easy to extend and utilize by other developers.
As the architect of the shared UI library for Android, we anticipate you to produce high-quality, well-documented components with clear APIs. To excel in this role, you should possess considerable experience in building Android applications using contemporary technologies and the latest features of the Android platform. Since our codebase is in Kotlin, proficiency in the language is essential, along with familiarity with Jetpack Compose and other cutting-edge Android features.
Although design skills are not mandatory, a keen eye for design is valued. You should be adept at recognizing design challenges, comprehending prevalent design principles, and advocating for Android-specific user experiences. Moreover, familiarity with Android accessibility guidelines and the ability to identify accessibility issues in designs are expected.
Effective communication is key as you will be required to share knowledge with engineers and designers across the organization. Being a builder of shared infrastructure, proactive communication of changes and anticipation of potential obstacles are vital aspects of your role. Collaboration with both engineers and designers is integral to your position.
