About the Team

The Monetization team is responsible for a big domain and deals with technologies in the areas of payments, subscriptions, sellable products, coupons & discounts, financial reporting and reseller partnerships. Apart from making sure the systems run and that the rest of the organization is served with data and tools, the team is also responsible for innovating within the Monetization area to make sure we find optimal solutions to monetize that both serve the company and our customers in a great way.

The team is responsible for a large amount of systems and services, some that are built recently in modern technologies but also some built several years ago that need to be refactored, so the team does also work a lot with modernizing the domain.

About the Role

Take the next step in your career as an experienced backend engineer at Storytel You will work with cutting-edge technologies alongside experienced colleagues. As a backend engineer, you will be involved in - and be asked to lead some of - our modernization journey, but also the maintenance of the existing platform.

About You

To be successful in this role we believe that:

  • You have a solid knowledge of backend development in Java, and, ideally, experience with other languages and environments - today we maintain services in mostly Java or C#, but even some in Go.
  • You have experience in building and deploying in Kubernetes on the Google Cloud Platform.
  • You have good knowledge of BigQuery.
  • You have a good understanding of modern architecture, system design, data structures and software engineering principles, and understanding how to apply them to design scalable and robust solutions.
  • You are comfortable with deploying and operating services in a cloud environment (we use Google's Cloud Platform, but experience from other platforms is also valuable).
  • You work well alone and can get things done on your own but you also are a team player that likes being part of a team where problems are solved together.
  • You enjoy both experimentation and building smaller features as well as doing bigger infrastructure improvement work.
  • You have experience working closely with business and product stakeholders, and understanding their needs - and you are able to go from the idea stage to scalable and maintainable solutions.
  • You are passionate about building great products that people love, and you always make technology choices with this end-goal in mind.
  • You believe in iteration and know that finding the right solution is more important than being quick about it.
  • You have some experience with front-end development (React)
