AstraZeneca is looking for a dynamic and experienced Medical/Veterinary Pathologist to support work in the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) disease area. This role offers significant potential for professional development and you will be based in either Gothenburg, Sweden or Gaithersburg, US.

CVRM Pathology collaborates closely with CVRM disease area scientists and the Safety Sciences organization, offering integrated support for efficacy and safety pathology to drive the development of treatments for patients with cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases. It is part of the Global Pathology department, operating across Sweden, the UK, and the US, providing pathology support to all AstraZeneca disease areas. Pathology falls under Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS), encompassing non-clinical safety functions for the AstraZeneca portfolio.

What you'll do
  • Work closely with discovery safety specialists, toxicologists, and disease area scientists.
  • Provide expert anatomic pathology support to multiple CVRM drug projects.
  • Contribute to the design and assessment of safety and efficacy studies.
  • Engage in projects exploring various therapeutic modalities.

Collaborate with our team of Imaging & AI scientists, utilizing advanced tissue imaging platforms and exploring multi-omics and AI for translational quantitative pathology. Build effective networks and seek collaboration opportunities across functions and with external scientific communities.

Essential for the role
  • MD or DVM Pathology degree.
  • Postgraduate pathology qualification (e.g. FRCPath, ESP, DACVP, DECVP, or DJSTP).
  • Significant experience in toxicologic pathology or a diagnostic area relevant to cardiovascular, renal, or metabolic disease.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to integrate pathology findings with diverse data sets.
  • Embrace digital technology for pathology and delivery of quantitative data.
Desirable for the role
  • PhD in a subject relevant to toxicologic pathology or cardiovascular, renal, or metabolic disease.
  • Strong scientific track record with publications in reputable journals.
  • Broad cross-species toxicologic pathology expertise.
