We are seeking an enthusiastic, high-energy individual to contribute to building the network behind the world's largest online services.

Microsoft's CO+I team is on the lookout for a Datacenter Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) Sub-Regional Cost Management Lead to cater to the Nordic Countries, including Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Norway.

This role pertains to the sub-regional responsibilities for the Nordics. Relocation aid will be provided to a central location, and candidates should be prepared for regular travel to project sites across all Scandinavian countries. This position is open to both hybrid and remote work arrangements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction management, Project Controls, Quantity Surveying, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams, estimating, or commercial aspects within a substantial construction portfolio
  • Proven expertise in commercial management for GC contracts and other construction vendors procurement
  • Willingness to travel within Nordic Countries, including Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Norway

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to satisfy Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening prerequisites necessary for this role, including specialized security clearances such as the Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Full membership or equivalent accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • Comprehensive understanding of international construction commerce

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Outstanding communication skills, with a history of successful collaboration across various sections of the data center program, coupled with strategic thinking capabilities to garner trust among construction partners for large-scale contracts

Responsibilities

Thorough comprehension of the commercial management of the General Contractor (GC), from collaborating with our procurement office on Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to finalizing payments and agreement of final accounts and documentation. This includes:

  • Supervising employee and vendor cost management resources
  • Preparing Reports for Global and Regional Cost Management Leads
  • Precise project estimation based on local design specifications
  • Negotiating estimates with the General Contractor during design development and contract sum finalization
  • Assessing and approving payment applications for the GC, equipment vendors, and project support consultants
  • Estimating and commercially agreeing on all change orders
  • Drafting commercial details and supporting documents for all funding requests
  • Reviewing and agreeing on all GC subcontract package procurement, including subcontract Letters of Authorization (LOAs) approval
  • Commercial review of any arising disputes
  • Generating necessary reports to meet global cost management team requirements in Redmond, including executing and monitoring central cost initiatives

Commercial management of all other program vendors involves:

  • Presenting proposals for purchase order approval at the head office
  • Validating invoices for all project vendors
  • Finalizing accounts and closing out all vendor transactions
  • Overseeing the Cost Management firm contracted for commercial support in the region
  • Assisting in the procurement process of the Cost Management firm
  • Managing allocated project resources to ensure appropriate quantity and quality
  • Conducting Monthly Business Updates (MBUs) with Consultant Cost Management firms
  • Collaborating with the Cost management firm, GC, and project controls for comprehensive cost reporting reviewed monthly in Redmond
  • Providing commercial support to the PER (funding) team, including detailed commercial information for funding requests to management
  • Offering commercial assistance to the Design Team, from project initiation through final design, encompassing business cases, value engineering studies, and change control
  • Supporting Site selection by providing constructability reports, site-specific estimates, funding, and Purchase Order (PO) support for the region
  • Implementing commercial process controls by refining existing commercial procedures into a standard commercial playbook for consistent application
