Divisional Overview
Global Banking and Markets division provides financing, advisory, risk distribution, and hedging services for institutional and corporate clients. Within Global Banking and Markets, our equities professionals focus on delivering ideas, execution, and liquidity to a wide array of clients trading the entire range of equity products, including physical shares, ETFs, synthetic shares, baskets, options, and other derivatives. Our engineers play important roles in several areas within the division. Some engineers build automated trading platforms and algorithms for the firm and its clients, taking an active part in the increasing shift from voice to electronic trading. Others sit on trading desks, creating cutting-edge derivative pricing models, and developing empirical models to provide insight into market behavior. Still others develop systems and processes that assist with making the entire trade life cycle more seamless.
GSET Engineering
Goldman Sachs Electronic Trading (GSET) offers a best-in-class comprehensive suite of trading strategies to help clients achieve their trading objectives and navigate a variety of market conditions leveraging historical analyses, quantitative models, and real-time market information. These strategies are built on a highly distributed, scalable, low latency trading platform, which processes billions of transactions daily in the low microsecond range, with minimal jitter. Our engineers are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining this trading platform as well as the strategies running on the platform, in a collaborative environment. The software our engineers write is of a very high standard: it is client and market facing with real time SLAs and can have high financial and regulatory impact. Some engineers focus on implementing the platform, its surrounding ecosystem and order management workflows, writing highly performant code and optimizing its interaction with the hardware and infrastructure it is executing on. Others work on building the trading models, signals and algorithmic logic which constitute the trading strategies.

Who Are We Looking For
We are looking for strong engineers in the GSET DevOps space. The team owns the production plant and manages systems that process billions of dollars' worth of trades every day. The team works to continuously improve processes and tools to achieve a quicker time to market for changes, increased stability, and reduced toil. The team also incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies it to trading operations problems. We push our own boundaries and challenge the status quo in others. Our main goal is to create scalable and resilient trading systems through best-in-class software change management. Our team supports and enhances user acceptance and production environments that are leveraged by clients and internal users for testing software and daily use.We want technical people that communicate well and have a passion for efficiency and automation, continually looking for ways to improve. As part of this effort, they will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across the world.
YOUR IMPACT
Working as a member of the DevOps team, your focus will be ensuring high release velocity and stability for the trading applications. This critical role includes analysis of real-time trading issues and enhancing our processes. The role also entails planning and leading projects across the wider GSET team to accommodate change and deliver new functionality to our clients.
The ideal candidate brings customer service excellency in their approach and have a solid understanding of distributed software systems. The role is adaptable to levels of seniority.
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Productive in programming with a focus on scripting and infrastructure as code
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment
  • Ability to challenge status quo and automate manual tasks
  • Ability to drive complex change to completion in collaboration and independently
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts, topologies, and technologies
  • Experience in working and supporting production platforms
  • Experience or willingness to quickly learn large-scale automated testing and releasing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • C++ programming experience
  • Hands-on experience in the release processes of large-scale software applications
  • Good understanding of software development life cycle processes
  • Strong grasp of computer networks with a good understanding of TCP/IP
  • Application support experience within Linux environments
  • Experience in application monitoring, performance, and capacity management in large-scale systems
  • Working knowledge of order management systems
Key Responsibilities
  • Ownership of our production services by measuring and monitoring availability, response times, and overall system health.
  • Building tools for reducing toil and enhancing process efficiencies
  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and release reviews.
  • Responsible for the successful deployment of certified code and new functionality into the production trading environment
  • Facilitate communications between trading desks, strategists, engineers, and other support teams to manage unexpected or day-to-day issues
  • Continuously improve availability, stability, and performance of systems
  • Coordinate the analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of system issues via postmortems
