Join the Center for Artificial Intelligence (CAI) at AstraZeneca, a lab dedicated to applying machine learning research to challenges in the medical field. We are a team of experts from various fields including Machine Intelligence, Data Science, Real World Evidence, and Bioinformatics.

As an Associate Principal AI Engineer, you will help deliver innovative AI research as enterprise-ready products. You will be responsible for developing efficient and scalable processes for the training of large machine learning (ML) models, as well as automating processes to accelerate project delivery and reduce costs and environmental impact. The role is to deliver important research done at the CAI as elegantly engineered, compliant, enterprise-ready products. This role is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead projects regarding software design, reproducibility, and efficiency.
  • Establish software engineering standards within the team, document these standards, and develop artifacts for easy application to projects.
  • Develop efficient processes for training large machine learning models in both cloud and on-prem infrastructure.
  • Drive project delivery and reduce costs and environmental impacts through automation, reducing the need for human intervention.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Track record of implementing software engineering best practices.
  • Experience automating the machine learning model lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in Python and scientific libraries like Pandas.
  • Experience with PyTorch for machine learning models and training.
  • Experience with optimization of distributed training of machine learning models.
  • Familiarity with GitHub for source control and GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes for implementing machine learning pipelines and the Kubeflow ecosystem.
  • Experience deploying solutions on cloud vendors such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Collaboration with diverse teams.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Relevant certifications.
  • Experience in domains subject to regulatory oversight.
  • Experience working in scientific research environments.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its processes.
