The vital role of proteins in understanding human biology has been recognized for many decades, but technological limitations severely restricted the comprehensive investigation of the huge number of proteins that could be important in different biological processes and diseases.

With Olink, scientists can now simultaneously measure thousands of human proteins using just a few μL of blood sample, with highly specific, thoroughly validated assays that cover a very wide dynamic range (fg/mL to μg/mL).


In a few years, Olink has grown rapidly from a small, Sweden-based company offering assays for a few hundred proteins, to a NASDAQ-listed organization with a strong global presence, a broad portfolio of flexible protein biomarker solutions and library of high quality, thoroughly validated assays that covers ~5400 proteins.

Olink Proteomics continues to grow, and we are now seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Systems and Automation team in Uppsala, with a focus on automation of Olink products.


The Systems and Automation team within R&D is responsible for product engineering and improvement projects for Olink's instrumentation product lines; and for automation of Olink's products using commercially available solutions.


You will work with automation of instruments used in the workflows of Olink's products, which include steps for antibody binding, PCR, bead purification, qPCR, NGS and sample dilution/centrifugation/transfer in between steps.

The instruments in the automation may include commercially available solutions as well as Olink proprietary systems.

The work is often carried out in projects, where several projects are run in parallel.

In this role, you would be an important member of multi-functional project teams, where a collaborative approach is a key for success.

Primary responsibilities

As an employee in the group, your duties will vary across project phases.

The main tasks will be to:

  • Program instruments and robots.
  • Automate and optimize processing of samples.
  • Evaluate instruments and automation concepts.
  • Documentation in technical reports and presenting results at meetings.
  • Collaborate crossfunctionally with members of other departments.
  • Actively participate in project work and other development activities.
Qualifications/Skills

  • Master's degree in a relevant area e.g. Molecular Biology, Engineering Physics or similar.
  • Good computer skills in general.
  • Several years of experience with programming of scripts proprietary to the device /robot and automation of instruments.
  • Experience from other RnD positions in the Life Science industry. Experience in laboratory work is advantageous.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills in English. Any Swedish skills is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines.
