Job Description

Problem statement

A motion capturing system records the movement of an object or person. For example, in filmmaking, they are often used to record the movement of a person and apply them to computer generated models.

For our sensor development it would be beneficial to have a camera-based system available as reference for object rotation and localization.

Proposed solution

A very simple realization would be a cube, which shows a QR code on all sides, and several cameras recording this scene from different angles. Using a feature detection over all different video streams, it should then be possible to calculate the rotation and the location of that cube within the observed 3D space.

We propose the following topics to be covered in the thesis:

* Set up a scene with different cameras

* Build a cube and do movements within the scene

* Record the video from the different locations

* Localize the QR Codes within the video stream

* Calculate the location and rotation of the cube according the detected QR code locations

* Visualize a 3D result of the detected cube

* Eventually, use active cameras doing the pre-calculation inside, e.g. with cameras with integrated Raspberry PI

* Discuss the theoretical limitations for accuracy and speed

You will of course have the opportunity to shape the thesis based on your knowledge, skills, and discoveries during the project.

Scope of master thesis project

Two students completing 30 credits each (20 weeks) onsite at the Lund office
Please note: Only applications from students at a Swedish University are accepted.
