Since its inception, EIT InnoEnergy has screened more than 7,000 start-ups, launched more than 300 products to market and overseen its portfolio companies filing 290+ patents. Today, EIT InnoEnergy has a 200+ strong team with offices across Europe and in Boston, US.

Background

Within the group, the Investment & Asset Management team is responsible for the sourcing, onboarding, growth, and monetization of innovative technologies and ventures. EIT InnoEnergy is looking for an  Investment & Asset Manager  for its  Scandinavia  team. The role will report to Magnus Lundin, Investment Director Scandinavia.

Today EIT InnoEnergy has one of the largest climate tech investment portfolios worldwide with more than 180 investee companies. We define ourselves as patient investors as we want opportunities that make impact at large, and this goes hand in hand with industrial development. In addition, 80% of our companies are exporting so we are looking for solutions that are highly scalable. Climate change and energy transition are global issues and therefore we need global solutions that can be implemented not only in the nearest markets, but also worldwide, hence we have ambitious plans to expand.

The main responsibility of the Investment & Asset Manager is to bring our existing portfolio companies to the European market and to support them in doing so. Secondly, to create a vivid portfolio capturing opportunities in the European region to bring its development to the USA and globally. Specifically, this role involves supporting the business development of our portfolio companies in the Nordic countries, including supporting them in the commercial and funding strategies and sourcing of innovative cases for investment decision, the negotiation of investment terms, and the active management of investments following InnoEnergys innovation and investment strategy.

The nature of this role requires the incumbent to interact with multiple stakeholders:

Close cooperation with the Scandinavian Management Team: CEO, and the Stockholm team of Business Development and Financial Managers. The Investment and Innovation Management team at a global level, the Portfolio Management team, and the regional Investment Directors, located in Europe and US. Founders, senior management, boards, key shareholders, Start-ups, Scale-ups, SMEs, or innovative companies Key players of Nordic entrepreneurship within the sustainable energy ecosystem, Key players of Nordic energy ecosystem (e.g., utilities, etc.) InnoEnergy partners, Investors, financing institutions, Legal and technical advisors, Service Providers, Consultancies, etc.

The role

You are part of a team of 6 people (4 Investment Managers, 1 Investment & procurement administrator and assistant, and the Investment Director). You cover all the steps of the investment cycle: scouting, investing, de-risking/accelerating, exiting.

Scouting : your mission is to identify and propose new early-stage start-ups to invest in. Investing and asset management : your mission is to negotiate with the start-ups investment conditions based on a roadmap defining the target to achieve in the future by the start-up (turn-over, business development, European extension, IP protection, team/recruitment, industrialization, fund raising). You design from scratch the support services to be provided to the ventures and manage their implementation. De-risking and accelerating : your mission is to mobilize our large ecosystem all over Europe to help the start-up to achieve roadmap milestones. Exiting : when the start-up realizes a certain level of maturity, you manage the exit, i.e., the sale of our shares.

Key responsibilities include:

In your Investment role to:

Capture and develop business opportunities for InnoEnergy and prepare decision documents (business cases and DD) for their evaluation in the Investment Committees. Participate in the InnoEnergy Investment Committees (IC) to present/defend new cases. Lead the negotiation of investment cases, following the guidelines of IC resolutions and in collaboration with the Thematic Field leader and Portfolio Manager (not excluding other members if necessary) to bring them to successful closing. Manage the equity evolution of each asset of the sub-portfolio under his/her responsibility and report on a constant basis to the corporate team to decide on active investor stewardship, growth development and potential follow-ons, or other relevant evolutions. Monetize the value of the portfolio, leading or participating in the planning and execution of exits in cooperation with the InnoEnergy team.

In your Asset Management role to:

Create an appealing proposal of added value services to make the business case: bigger, sooner, and safer (de-risking) and assure the monetization of those services in the investment contract. Provide or assure the provision of the added-value service to InnoEnergy portfolio companies under his/her responsibility or on those InnoEnergy assets where the local collaboration is requested. Being able to mobilize our InnoEnergy innovation ecosystem to add value to- and grow the portfolio companies (local, corporate, and extended). Increase the value of the portfolio by working closely with the European sales team to capture (commercial) opportunities for the investees. Establish and maintain contacts with founders, relevant partners from industry, investors, financing institutions, consultancies, associations, etc.

Other:

Building the right awareness, reputation and ecosystem to be successful in the above tasks is part of the role. This means attending and representing EIT InnoEnergy at various events, conferences, and other opportunities (including social media presence) to nurture this.

Experience & Qualifications

A proven track record in managing complex (financial) venture capital transactions and projects is a must. Profound experience with corporate finance (venture capital and valuation) and/or business creation (investments, spin-offs, start-ups). Knowledge of public funding systems is a plus. Experience in working with entrepreneurs and start-ups business models. You possess excellent communication skills. You have a passion for innovation, cleantech and entrepreneurship. You are at ease in an international work setting, coping with ambiguity and tight deadlines. Masters degree in: Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or relevant technical field Proven affinity with energy and climate tech or markets Professional experience is required (min. 7 years in the specific areas), ideally in: Co-founding and leading start-ups, and/orFinancing early-stage start-ups, and/orVenture capital fund, asset management Other generic: Business Management, Management Consulting, Business Development, Technology Transfer, Sales and strategic GTM development. Fluent in spoken and written English and Swedish and (or other Nordic language) Good knowledge and confidence in working with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams.
